Welcome to the Tevo Tornados

I decided to create this for all Tevo Tornado users to make it easier to access information on the fly versus searching all the Facebook groups. I'll list hardware upgrades and more here. I love upgrading my Tevo Tornado and just want to share with everyone.

Where to buy the Tevo Tornado

  1. Hi Everyone, Hope this isn't a silly question: I am new to 3D printing and my TEVO Tornado is my first. I am trying to switch out my hot end for an ED3 lite that purchased (I have 2 the clone and the legit from UK). I am just going to reuse my wiring for now as I am trying to avoid having to flash the firmware until I get more comfortable with it. I notice when I mount it on the x axis the hotend with nozzle and everything is longer. I feel like I need to make an adjustment to tell where my new home Z position would be, as I think it would dive into the bed. Can I do this using the LCD screen some how? Also I just clicked "reset home offsets" by accident, someone please help what does that do? I am hoping it just sets a new home position where ever I have the x, y physically ? Kind of lost sorry.

    1. You have to zero your bed positions and re level the bed and adjust the z stop if necessary. Once your settings are correct you can save to your firmware via the control box.

  2. Thanks for creating this blog - always good to see more information shared about 3d printing and the Tornado. I've got a lot of mods/upgrades sitting there waiting for my courage to get just a little higher. I've been into computers for over 30 years and have a lulzbot mini in my office at school but the DIY printers require a LOT more actual knowledge about how it all works, as I have found out! But hey, that's what makes it fun, right?

    1. Yes Scott, I agree that is one of the many reasons they are so fun! (And addictive). Good luck with upgrading and MODs there are a lot of awesome ones out there for the Tornado.

  3. Hello! I was so happy to find your blog! My nephew is 15 and just purchased a Tornado with his own money (a very big deal!) I use a Raise3D in my classroom and I am finding that there is a lot to learn about using the Tornado as I try to help him. He got it all set up, but is struggling with the slicing software. I am used to IdeaMaker since that's what Raise3D uses. The manual that cam with the Tornado suggests Slic3r, however, the SD card that came with it does not have the suggested tornado.ini file for setting up Slic3r. Am I better off helping him set up different slicing software like IdeaMaker or some other or should I try to track down the tornado.ini file? I really appreciate any help.

    3. Use “CURA”, it’s a free software and you can select a “Tornado” profile when you first setup the software. You’ll want to adjust your slicer settings for each different model and material but the profile will at least give you the dimensions and use the correct marlin flavour of Gcode once selected. Make sure to expand the visibility of the slicer settings so you get more to adjust and play with. Maybe watch a quick tutorial about using the Tornado with CURA. Also feel free to ask anymore questions I have 2 Tornados and love them both. They never stop printing

    1. What is it doing? If you are getting lines or shifting you may need to check the belt tension. Let me know so I can further assist you.

    2. The stop end was bent... so the carriage was missing it - fixed it

BL Touch Tevo Tornado Install

I wanted to create this Tevo Tornado Blog to help people who are into modding the Tevo Tornado. One of the popular and useful upgrades is to add auto bed leveling. There are many probes out there, but one of the popular ones in the community is the BL Touch. The BL Touch is easy to install and can be very useful once it is set up correctly. It is recommended that you purchase the kit with the 1m extension to avoid buy additional wires and tools. You will need to print and mount. I currently use the fan fang on my Tevo Tornado along with a blower fan for better cooling. Once you have it mounted you will need to wire it. In my case I am using the MKS Gen L v1.0 board shown below. After you set up your wires correctly you will need to flash your Tevo Tornado with your desired firmware. I used Marlin 1.1.9 and made my changes accordingly. You will need to do a PID Tune and add those settings to the firmware prior to flashing it. You can download a copy of my 1.1.9 here but ma
