BL Touch Tevo Tornado Install

I wanted to create this Tevo Tornado Blog to help people who are into modding the Tevo Tornado. One of the popular and useful upgrades is to add auto bed leveling. There are many probes out there, but one of the popular ones in the community is the BL Touch.

The BL Touch is easy to install and can be very useful once it is set up correctly. It is recommended that you purchase the kit with the 1m extension to avoid buy additional wires and tools. You will need to print and mount. I currently use the fan fang on my Tevo Tornado along with a blower fan for better cooling. Once you have it mounted you will need to wire it. In my case I am using the MKS Gen L v1.0 board shown below.

After you set up your wires correctly you will need to flash your Tevo Tornado with your desired firmware. I used Marlin 1.1.9 and made my changes accordingly. You will need to do a PID Tune and add those settings to the firmware prior to flashing it. You can download a copy of my 1.1.9 here but make the proper changes for your set up before uploading to your Tevo Tornado! You will need Arduino for your computer https://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/Software to upload the firmware. Once your firmware is uploaded to your machine you will need to run some G-Code commands to store it and set it so the new firmware will function properly. You can download Pronterface here and connect your 3d printer so you can run the M502 command to set to default and M500 to store it in the EEPROM of your Tevo Tornado. Once you do that you should now have the working firmware installed. With any new upgrades making sure your bed is leveled is crucial. In this case, we are using the BL Touch, there for you will need to calibrate the z offset so it can print your first layers correctly. I followed this video from 3D Maker Noob's channel on how to calibrate your BL Touch. Once you have completed this your BL Touch should be working correctly. If for some reason you can't get a good first layer, you can start a print and use the baby stepping features to get a good squish on your first layer print. In case you aren't familiar with baby stepping here is a video on the process. This is just a quick post on this process as I am still currently fine tuning my BL Touch on my Tevo Tornado but I will have a more detailed video on what you need to change in the firmware etc.

If all goes well, your BL Touch will do a double tap upon turning on the Tevo Tornado and you will see it flash red and blue when it is probing the bed. You can purchase the real BL Touch at Amazon.com that way it insures you get a genuine probe and not a fake.
